FWIW, Kroger and some gas stations gave out Top Value stamps. You could redeem Top Value stamps for Kings Island tix because the owners were tied together. Top Value was also linked with WLWT in Cinci and Ruth Lyons used to come to the Woodman Drive store in Kettering.

Dan-Q: you probably wont believe this but I remember that. the church got involved as well. I went to a baptism for the daughter of one of my mothers friends. it was in Corpus Christi church on the corner. a small pretty church with a short single domed steeple. I can remember seeing the flyers and the donation box by the door. I was saving stamps for a new basketball and I got a major guilt trip laid on me by my mother because I didnt want to bring my stamps back and donate them to the sisters cause. the stamps that I was saving was Top Value so I imagine thats what they were collecting. Thanks for the memory jog.

That is so cool! It's nice to hear from someone who has a shared memory from childhood, all those years ago. Sorry to hear about the guilt trip that your mother laid on you, but, of course, that's one of the things that mothers are so good at.

Yeah, Corpus Christi (which is located at the intersection of Forest and Homewood Avenues) was (and presumably still is) a pretty church, especially when the ivy was growing on it. It had sort of a Spanish-mission look.

Dan-Q: Yes, the church always did kinda remind me of a old spanish mission. I hear they have torn down or are planning to tear down Julienne, is this true ?
If it is true it's criminal. thats a beautiful school.

Still dying to find somebody besides me that remembers Gold Bond Trading Stamps.

Riverdale Rat:

I agree with you about the old Julienne High School building. I don’t think it’s been torn down yet. As I understand it, the City wants to demolish it because it’s allegedly outmoded and would cost too much to renovate and maintain, but there is a neighborhood association and some Julienne alumnae who are working to preserve the building. I hope they succeed.

When I was growing up, we lived at 234 Kenwood Avenue, less than a block away from Julienne. I remember seeing groups of Julienne girls pass our house, in their school uniforms, laughing and chattering away while walking home or to the bus stop after school. They seemed so old to me then. I also took piano lessons for several years from a nun at Julienne whose name escapes me now. Since I went to Corpus Christi grade school, the vast majority of my female classmates ended up going to Julienne, and in high school (Chaminade, class of 1970), I dated several girls from Julienne. Fond memories....

Dan-Q: I truly hope they succeed in saving it. I remember seeing all the Julienne girls on the Five Oaks bus in the evening. if memory serves they wore Navy Blue and White. (not sure) Chaminade was the school where the boys went. I remember it well down on South Ludlow with the Catholic Church across the street. the old Ohio Bus Lines yard sat just to the west of the school. I still remember the Green and White Chaminade jackets with Chaminade written across the back in white letters. thanks for bringing back all those memories.

Haven't seen them in a while, but I've got a plastic bag full of either Top Value stamps or S&H green stamps, mostly in books. Too late to cash them in, maybe I can sell them on ebay .

I have a Top Value Stamps gift catalog from 1974 that I got at a yard sale last year. I collect alot of kitschy stuff from the 60s & 70s and I saw it at a yard sale and picked it up. Pretty fun to look at. I also have some old Christmas catalogs from JC Penney and Sears.

The Top Value catalogs used to each feature a Norman Rockwell painting that he painted specifically for Top Value. His originals used to hang in the corporate headquarters building at 3085 Woodman Drive where I worked from 1972 to 77. I wonder what became of the paintings after the company dissolved.

i remember a deli that i bet nobody remembers. it was downtown on main street, just a few doors south of 3rd. they had the best tasting sandwiches of any deli that i can remember having ever been in. i think they opened around 65 or 66. cant quite remember the name of it though, maybe it will come to me later. it was a man and his wife who owned/ran it as i remember.

Riverdale Rat, I don't know if Liberal gave Top Value stamps. I never shopped there. Kroger may have had an exclusive in the Dayton area.

Does anyone remember the Toys Internationale store at the Dayton Mall? That was owned by Top Value. There were also stores at Kings Island and Kings Dominion in Virginia.

Liberals gave King Korn stamps, and most gas stations gave Top Value. My uncle was top buyer for Top Value, and he used to give us promotional toys he would get.
When my son was born, my mother in law took her Top Value stamps and bought him a monkey holding a banana. He named him Sammy, and kept him for years. When he was 16, his scout troop took a trip to the Yorktown, and Sammy went along. I think his wife got rid of it a few years ago.

smurfnana: Thanks for the info on the King Korn stamps. there's several of us that have been trying to figure out if liberal gave stamps at all and if so, which kind. I dont remember them giving stamps but I never collected King Korn so thats probably why I dont remember. dquartz, has a seperate thread somewhere on the board trying to get an answer to this question and apparently nobody knew for sure.

To the best of my knowledge, which includes most of the 1960's, Liberal did not give out stamps. I remember mostly the Top Value stamps and the redemption center in Forest Park. Would love to see that catalog someone found. My best friends Mother decorated her house totally with Top Value stamp stuff. That is where my luggage came from - olive green. So cool.

Becky73: Thats exactly the same way I remember it but several posters have sworn that Liberal Gave King Korn Stamps. I wouldnt have remembered King Korn because I was a Top Value nut as a kid. I used to hang around a Marathon station and run errands for the guy's and they would save all the stamps that the customers didnt want or forgot and give them to me. in between that and Krogers I had a closet full of neat stuff courtesy of Top Value. I always went to the redemption center in Forrest Park as well because it was an easy access from the # 7 Trolley.

If Liberal did give out King Korn stamps, they must have discontinued it at some point way before Top Value. I also remember gas stations giving out Top Value stamps. When I was a teenager and driving a hot red Cutlass, the guys at the station thought they could get points with me by giving me more stamps then was allowed. Didn't work, but I appreciated the luggage.
