Graduated Colonel White High and left Dayton for the service in 75. Stumbled into this board looking for history on the Golden Rod Music Store on Main, near the old firehouse and Brown Derby Restaurant. Down from Van Cleve Elementary with the Hobby Lobby across the street.

My local market was Neal Avenue Market where Mr. Sherman was the butcher. There was a barber shop next door.

I lived behind Five Oaks Park, attended Corpus Christi Elementary. Julienne H.S. was just around the corner from the house.

My orbit was Philips Pool and Jack's Drive In Restaurant on the East/North side? Jack's Putt Putt Golf was there. Forest Park Plaza had a mini-golf too. Spent time at the Salem Drive In and the Victory (name ???) Bowling Lanes on Main.

There was a private Hoagies Place on the corner of Main and Riverdale/Riverview? across from the gas station, next to the bank. It was one of the original call and deliver joints as I remember it.

D&J's Carry Out
The Glenn at Julienne and Corpus Christi
Five Oaks Park
Philips Aquatic Center
East Dayton Tool and Die
Island Park
Kettering Fields
YMCA Slot Car Racing
McKinley Park outdoor concerts
Triangle Park hangout spots
Alexanders on Brown Street
The Mustang Club near Brown Street

This has been interesting. Thanks for putting this up.
I'm heading back into Dayton for T-Day 08. Will meet eldest daughter and two grands there. I'll have a chance to revisit some local history with my grands. Probably play some golf at Community maybe.

Take care everyone. Holler if you make it into Barbados in the Caribbean.

Do you remember Bob Shreve and the Schoenling All Night Theater on WHIO TV and Gordon Jump's Fun Time on WLWD? Gordon Jump went on to star on WKRP in Cincinnati with Gary Sandy, also a Dayton native.

Peggy, yes the Belmont Auto Theatre was out in the boonies east of Woodman a few miles off of Patterson, I believe. A guy I went to HS with grand parents owned the Belmont in the 70's.

Jumper, I used to catch the end of Bob Shreve becuase I wanted to watch cartoons which started just after his all night show. Bob Shreve would be three sheets into the wind by that hour of the morning!

tlturbo, from your post a couple of months ago... The Knollwood Pharmacy was great. They had a huge magazine rack in the front and ice cream in the back. My dad spent way too much time across the street, at the Knollwood Tavern!

Also across the street was a Shell station run by Dick Vest. Dick was a drag racer (rails) in the 60's and 70's. I know a hundred Dick Vest stories but I won't bore you with them.

Your mention of that photo dropoff in Lofino's parking lot brought back memories. I remember a 17 year old woman worked there in the mid 70's and she was killed be her boyfriend. It shook the community but I can no longer recall the details.

Man,

I was on another blog on another site trying to write to some youngin's from Dayton about the Real Partys that continously went on in Dayton during the 70's. I found this site when I was googeling "The Shed" to find out it's new name so they would know where it was.

Man,you guys bring up countless memories.

I'm from the 1972 Sinclair Gang. What a hell of a gang. It was a mob of about 400+ students from Sinclair that would party when ever and where ever in Dayton. The most famous one was good old Alabama with his black ranger hat. Of course, everyone knew each oher and we all were famous to each other. It was the days where alot of the students had just gotten back from Nam and was using their GI Bill. Never had a day that I didn't meet a new friend. It was a hell of a good time. I was there for four years befor I moved away and then I moved in and out of town several times.

I know about 95% of everything that you guys are talking about. Then my mom use to live downtown during WW II when she was young and use to tell me about what went on then and the parties she use to go to then.

Has anyone mentioned the Arcade?

A follow up on Little Mickeys. Before opening in the Oregon Dist Little Mickeys was located on Third St directly opposite the Police station. I had a band that played there in 1960 called Lenny Davis & the Megatones later to be called the Davis Division. Very Rockabilly place. It wasn't out of the question to dodge a beer bottle once in a while.
I don't believe that Mickey Freedman is the brother of of Jerry Gilloti, owner of Gillys. Mickey had a brother who owned Freedman Photography.

Was hired by Duke Elington and went on a world tour with the famous band and one of Duke's girls, adding her name to a list of very famous lady singers. In reguards to The clubs on Siebenthaler-First I am happy to see people remembering the Forvm.
Yes we did name the Forum with a V(Forvm)-it was in front of Bowlero Bowling alley-Next door to Village Inn Pizza-Martin & Clin Spa(later Vic Tannys)-Cinema North and across the street from Icelandia and the Country Club. The club was open from 1965 to 1977 when it was sold and my partner(Joe Kraft) and I took our show on the road for several years. Not many of the people in the Forvm family are with us any more. Big Red passed away 13 years ago-Joe passed away last year in Alexandria, Va-We also lost Bobbie Gordon and Dottie Jean 4 years ago. They were loved and will be missed by those of us who are left.
Today is my first time on this sight so if anyone wants to ask about the entertainment era of the 60's & 70's I'll try to answer.
Is "Just N Tyme" still playing?

Hey Lenny,

I have asked this before but no one seems to remember. I'm talking late 60's era here.
What was the nightclub out toward Huber Heights from the Diamond Club? It was a huge 2 story open place with lots of waterfall effect lights on the walls and had the first strobe I had ever seen. Was this the LT Club? Can't remember where that place was either. There was also a place out that way that had a jacuzzi in the front - you could rent a locker, change into swim suit and sit in the hot tub and drink. Was that the Pookie Pookie?

I was also told that Neal Diamond had some ownership in the Diamond Club and always wandered if he really did. I remember watching the 1st Moon Landing from inside the Diamond Club. That was my place Wed & Sun nights - $2 to get in and free beer. Wayne Cochran (sp?) and the CC Riders. Remember the mini skirt contests? I had a custom gold 69 vette the Egyptian painted and the Diamond Club always let me park it right outside the front door so no one messed with it. AHHHHH, the memories.

You actually remember the car? Cool. I had to park it across the street at that gas station one night and someone tried to steal it. Someone came running into the Diamond Club yelling for me and we all hauled butt out there. Wish we had caught the SOB. No harm done though.
Anyway, at that age (21-23) I was more into the car and cruise scene than nice restaurants with entertainment. Where exactly was the Forvm located? I was also from Beavercreek so East Dayton and Kettering were my areas and not N or West Dayton too much. For the club scene, I was usually at the Diamond Club, Shed, Timothy's and the Lions Den on Wilmington (I remember the night it caught fire) and occasionally the She.
Sounds like you sure should have a lot of great memories. I doubt you know me but my name is Terry.

The Forvm was located at 3493 W Siebenthaler Ave at Klepinger. Right in front of the Bowlero Bowling.
I loved the Diamond club-unfortunatly the Forvm was only closed Mondays so the shows i saw from 1965 to 77 were limited. Nontheless how can I forget that great showpiece of a car you had. It was the talk.
I'm sure Neal Diamond had nothing to do with the club. It was a rumor. Don't remember the last name but a lady named Jenny owned the Diamond club. There was a girl that sang there once in a while named Jerri Diamond. Good voice. But other than Wayne C. my favorite group that entertained there was "Myron and the Vandells"
I believe you are right about the LT and Pookie Pookie. Only went to the Pookie one time with(see if you remember)Steve Zacks of Holliday Health Spa fame. He always hit the clubs, so he knew all the latest ones.
Did you ever go to the Forvm and do I know you.

I remember Maxims on Woodman well. In 1960 I had a record out and did a signing at Maxims. Thought it was odd to have a record signing at a dept store but I was a local and they were selling them. That was when the disc Jocks were still having Record Hops every weekend and artists were doing free appearances and signing teenage girls foreheads etc. Lot of fun. I've still got some advertisement somewhere on the Maxin appearance. Hard to believe that was 48 years ago.

Lenny, Since you have had a music backround in Dayton, I am asking this question that I have been racking my brain about. Me and my buddies in the 70's used to go to this small club in the Oregon District and watch this duo. Their name was **** and Astrad. I believe she was asian, but I can't remember his name or the club name. Help.
Also I remember a short lived DJ on WING radio called Mojo Man. I heard he got arrested for picking up young girls. He wore a turbin.
MY buddy had a GTO and we would go to Ault & James
Speed Shop every weekend.

Lenny, I keep thinking of other things.
I am from Xenia, class of 67. I remember going to the Blue Moon to see "Pictorian Skiffel " great Stones type band. There was another band I can't remember the name, but a kind of Jim Morrison singer. And the Mark V. Xenia had a couple of bands also, Paul Levigne & The Trojans, and the Pendletons and the Slurreys..

Maxed Out,

The duo you're thinking of was Dow and Astrid. I used to see them at the old Iron Boar, on Patterson Road just west of Wilmington Avenue (which was owned at the time by Dan Lafferty, whose nickname was Wiley, and who later owned Wiley's Comedy Club). Dow wore a top hat (and tuxedo?) on stage and drove a hearse.

Around 1968 I worked at MISCO (McCalls Information Service Co) on the U of Dayton Campus with another computer operator that drove a big black herse. He had a dummy on a gurney in the back with an arrow sticking out of his chest and people would go nuts seeing it. I don't remember his name - could it be the same guy?

Hey - I am back. Forgot to bookmark the site the first time I visited.

I too am a Shoup Mill alum. Went there from K to 8th. The principal the whole time was Miss Reinicke. ( Sad story I heard was that several years after I left she was assaulted at the school by a student and shoved down the stairs. Retired soon afterwards. ) Mr Short was the custodian. Teachers included: Mrs. Bollick for 8th until my 7/8th grade year when Mr. O'dell my hero, appeared. Also Mrs. Pexton for 7th, Mr. Fabian ( an awful man who used to drink raw eggs for lunch in front of us.) Mrs. Stickler for 6th grade, Miss Armstrong for 5th and the teacher I had for many years - Mrs. Flaura Smith. Also Mrs. Stooksberry for Kindergarten. I have all or almost all of my class pictures and the little yearbooks.

Bill77, I grew up with Randy Freed - was best friends with his older sister Leslie. And thank you to whoever recalled the history of Shoup Mill. One spring, long ago and far away, my friend and I almost drown in the Stillwater. And speaking of the history of Shoup Mill - do any of you fellow Chipmunks remember the picture of the mill in the principal's office? I have been obsessed with mill pictures ever since my childhood because of that picture. Comforting for some reason. Would love to know what happened to that picture. The Buckeye Trails girl scouts have no idea what happened to it. And by the way, I got a tour of the old building about 10 years ago and that gym is pristine! Even the old locker rooms that doubled as bomb shelters are still there. So were the stage and the ropes I could never climb. The grounds have changed but still bring back many memories. Would love to talk to anyone about Shoup Mill. < kebfromcincy@yahoo >

Oh, AllenN '71, the Meadowdale class of '73 is alive and well. We just did our 35th reunion and reunion committee is committed to keeping it going as long as we are alive and kicking. I so admire the class of '77 website. Several old friends send me the link on occasion.

Someone mentioned meeting famous people. Can't say I ever met a famous person in Dayton. But as a current Cincinnatian, I have met a few. I have seen Pete Rose a couple of times. Once he was on a plane I traveled on - he was in first class of course. Saw him again recently in Las Vegas, signing autographs for money in a sports memorbilia shop. Sad. Met his first wife too. She was old school Cincinnati classy and nice. Anthony Munoz of the Bengals and Pro football hall of fame had kids my kids age and my daughter played against his daughter in basketball. NICE guy - nice family. Bob Huggins used to hide behind a newspaper at our daughters soccer games.

maxed out,

I remember the Power & Light song. As I recall, it was pretty funny. For the chorus, Dow would make a rapping sound (like someone knocking on a door), and then boom out "POWER AND LIGHT"!!!

tlturbo,

I don't know if Dow had a day job, or if he did, what it was, so I can't tell you if the computer operator you worked with was Dow. Sorry.

Becky73....I loved Cassano's Pizza... I haven't had one for quite a few years. I live in south Florida now. Every time I do get to Xenia I have a Cassano's Pizza, Nicks restaurant in Xenia, and I always loved Frisch's. After the Xenia football games at Cox Field we would all cross the street and go to Cassano's on Allison Ave.

This is for WB81MY - I too was at Shoup Mill during the year you mentioned. I have the little yearbook for that year if you are interested in your class picture, I can probably either xerox copy it or scan it and send it to you. My E-mail address is kebfromcincy@yahoo - you know the rest.

The Colony apartments are a vivid memory. The quarry lake and surrounding area was all wild and unimproved before those apartments were built. I was young and not allowed to explore there although many of my friends and neighbors did since we lived right next to it. I think "the colony" must have been a specific company that named all their developments that because there is another complex here in the Greater Cincinnati area that is called that and the architecture is the same. This one has been maintained better.

The apartments brought a whole different group of people to Shoup Mill which certainly broadened my horizons. Many in my class who lived there were Jewish. And until that time I had never been aware of an entire group of people whose families didn't live in 'homes". Silly to think of it now.

I look at those pictures now and realize that the majority of those kids went on to Meadowdale with me and graduated. My children cannot say that. Our area has a top rated school system and had a whole corporate move in/ move out mentality. It seems that the days of neighborhood schools where you grow up with the same group of kids and get through high school with them are gone.

Lenny,

The lady who owned the Diamond Club was Jennie Krynzel. Later, after the Diamond Club changed their name to Yesterday's Resturant (Home of the Butter Knife Prime), I worked there as a waitress, bartender, hostess, etc. She was a super lady. She brought in her son, Dan Krynzel who managed the place with his wife Tina.

Sooz

Speaking of the Belmont Drive-In, do you remember Shaker Farm now Research Park?

Or what about Nick's on Linden for Breakfast after drinking, for bisquits and gravey?

P.S. Thanks, Elizabeth Key, we have been trying to think of the name of the Echo for months.

Dow and Astrid.... I met Dow around 1969-1970 when he had a long-standing gig at the Upper Krust on North Main. He's living in Florida now, I think. I saw Astrid at Kroger's a couple days ago, don't think she performs anymore.

Noticed somebody mentioned Green Light Sunday and Sue Darby.... they had a long run at the Diamond Club... I probably knew Fly Barlow the best, Jason Hollinger played guitar, Jim Wyatt played bass, thinking two of the horn players were Gary and John.... been way too close to 40 years ago, I guess...

Hey maxed out....did you live in Xenia during the '74 tornado? I was in nursing school in Columbus and one of my classmates was from there. Incredible amount of damage.

I was too young for the club scene you all are talking about, but the mention of the Upper Krust brought back memories of a very strange date who took me there. Loved the sandwiches.

And Lenny's friend Kathy Burch grew up in my neighborhood. I was friends with her younger sister but remember Kathy was big into music. Many of my classmates I see at reunions mention having seen her play piano in clubs around Dayton. Hope she is well.

I went to Rons because I was told by my daughter that her native Daytonian neighbors said it was closer to the Cassanos of old than the current Cassanos is now. I have been there twice. Each time I altered one of thier deluxe pizzas trying to get the taste right. It is close, but not quite, so far. They have the old ovens and chop the ingredients like Cassanos used to, so I would say it is probably as good as it gets in this new millenium. I plan on giving it another try in the near future.

Oddly enough, I am not sure I have ever had Marions pizza. But we plan on having it at the Meadowdale '73 reunion committee meeting coming up the end of the month. I am looking forward to it.

I will have one of my kids get me into myspace so I can check out Kathy's page.

I remember the tornado that hit Zenia. I was going to visit a friend there and got stopped by the National Guard on Hwy 35, i ended up driving in a back road and came in to the back of my friends neighborhood. It looked like a b-52 carpet bombed the place. I have never seen anything like that again.

Now I can't wait to have Marion's pizza!

Just made a short trip back to Dayton today to go to an old friend's Fathers visitation. Drove down Main St. and visited several of my old haunts.

Shoup Mill is now a school again! I spoke to one of the Moms sitting out front. It is now called Charity Adams and is a school for girls only. There is another school somewhere for just boys. It is a Dayton public school and draws from the entire city. It must of just started within the last two years and they are adding one grade level at a time. I am excited that the building is now back to being used for what it was intended.

There is still a Girl Scout council building on the grounds. Changes there too - but neither here nor there. Anyway, they cut down some of the trees to build it and used the wood in the building. I am not sure how I feel abou that since the outside of the building is so ugly.

Was really taken aback with just how many of the businesses I knew growing up are now just empty shell buildings or just plain gone....Suttmillers, Tropics, the flower shop where my Mother worked and the cigar store attached to it, Sollenbergers motors ( was it a Rambler dealership?), Tandy's toys, all of Forest Park plaza and *tears* Shearers. There are still people living in the neighborhoods, but just not as many businesses serving them.

Other changes in the Forest Park area include the closing of Moorman Pontiac which was bought out by Reichard Buick.

The old Stumps grocery store on Shoup Mill was a pet supply place (can't remember the name) and it's now closed.

Pefley Ford was bought out and renamed Prestige Ford and it closed around a year ago.

Other long closed places are the Frisch's and Ponderosa at the corner of Main and Nottingham, the Dunkin' Donuts and Pizza Hut which are now payday advance places and of course, Shearers (my favorite ice cream place).

Dayton Band moved further north on Main but it's now closed also. The AAA office at Main and Turner moved north and a pharmacy sits on the land. The Rax Roast Beef place was a flower shop for a time and another pharmacy is now located there.

There's really not much left in the area that was there back in the 70's and Forest Park is almost empty. It only has two or three places that are open.

I lived down Nottingham towards the river growing up. That Ponderosa you mentioned was built on the site of the old Parkmoor. It was such a big deal when that place opened. Eating dinner there was a big treat. Yeah, that was back when the food there was actually good and the line snaked out the door.

I remember all those places you mentioned. Wonder if the library is still up there? I spent many an hour there. The Handyman hardware is still sporting the old sign. It looked like it was still open. The Northtown shopping center used to have an Elder Beerman that I walked to all the time. As a child, I would walk up Nottingham hill to catch the #5 bus downtown - by myself - all the time. Would never happen now.

It is great to see all of the emails, and the many places that were, and the great story's that are shared.

I remember them all including the cruising scene around Dayton from Frisch's on Keowee to Parkmoor on Airway, Hasty Tasty on Linden to the Country Kitchen at Dorothy Lane and Smithville.

The Diamond Club, the Hub, the Lion's Den (wasn't that at Forest Park) in the back ground level.

What terrific kids back then.

Lions Den was on the West side of Wilmington, just S of Patterson and N of Defense Electronic Supply (DESC). It caught on file probably in 1971 and not sure if they rebuilt and used that name again. I moved to FL in Jan of 72.
The place at Forest Park was the SHE, although I think there were other names to it.
Yep, that was my cruise route too. Headquarters was Country Kitchen on Dorothy Lane and Wilmington, then to Frishes on Keowee, then Parkmore at Forest Park, then do it again. HA Parkmore at Airway was close to the house when I lived in Beavercreek so I went there occasionally around 66-68. At least gas was about $.50 a gal for Sunoco 260. I went through a lot of gas with a 427 vette and 456 gears.

just found this site, a lot of great memories. I was born in Dayton, Lived on Danbury Road, near Wilmington and Patterson. Went to Horace Mann Elementary. One of my early memories was going to Sacksteder's Restaurant with my family every Sunday. Also Rikes show windows at Christmas. We would always go to Rikes restaurant if we were downtown and I would always get their sloppy joe sandwich and a butterscotch milkshake.

Moved to Oak Creek Subdivision in Kettering off Bigger Road in 1964. Went to JFK middle school and Fairmont East HS, graduating in 1972. Left Ohio in 1972 to go to school in Colorado and have not been back since.

I remember Cassanos Pizza and Sandys Hamburgers with much fondness. I worked at a Shell gas station in high school in Centerville.

Tlturbo / I cruised the same route you did. I had a red 69 Nova SS396 but I was probably several years younger than you as I was still in high school. I remember your Vette. Definitely impressive to a 17 year old kid who put every dime he made pumping gas into his car. Also probably more impressive to me was the fact you always had a pretty girl in the passenger seat.

Those were good times, but I never raced on the street. I always went to Kil- Kare drag strip on Sat and raced in the brackets.

Another person mentioned going to school with the same group of kids. Back then it seemed like everybody's dad worked for NCR, Wright Pat, Frigidare or similar and we all grew up together from grade school to high school. Today everyone moves every couple of years.

It was a much more innocent time. I wish my 4 children could have the same experience.

Hey, littlebevi: The pool on Frederick Pike N. of Old Springfield was called Clearwater Pool...now it is a private residence. I have discussed with some friends about how the bottom of the pool was always so rough and had small stones that would cut your feet if you weren't careful..it was nestled back a lane with lot's of trees around it...you could never get a suntan there!(You had to go to Miller's Grove 'top shelf' for that or a burn).

Did all of us meet one time or another North and South on 75 and East and West on 70? Seems like all of us sneaked down to Brown Street to Timothy's, the Shed, and the "Jack Kerouak" type coffee shop where the 'beatniks' and hippie poets from UD and the area spewed their prose for us, right under Frisch's on Brown Street? They always showed new 'artistic' animated features in the theater right next to the Mayfair. (Oops...remember "Busty McQueen"?) Didn't Steve Kirk own an Irish bar down there as well? It is so much fun reading all of the memories and sharing them with you. Thank goodness we all still have our memories, as there's not much left of the Dayton area from the 'olden days'! Thanks Bill and Curt for all of the information and for the sites. It is so pleasant to have a 'family' to share our memories with. Guys....do it now, while we still have our minds! he he (Peace)

OOPS Forgot about the signature burger at Parkmoor that someone asked about..it was the "DOUBLE BURGER" (of all things?)!!! They also had "chicken in a basket", as I have been reminded! Great chicken...great memories and great times...gee, were the 60's and 70's so long ago? (Don't even mention those darn 80's and 90's!) tee hee Edited note: just read about Parkmoor's "Dixie fried chicken"....thanks, and shame on me for not reading the entire blog.

Lenny, you know the music groups from this area? Do you remember one that played at the Tijuana at the Mall with a girl named "Mona" as the lead singer? Can't recall the name of the band...73-75 it seems like, (after or at the same time Trudy sang there). That was a nice place...too bad about Salem Mall/Salem Ave/Shiloh Springs/all the commerce and meeting places...a mere rubble with memories. Boy, am I depressed! Come on, cheer us up you guys! Let's have some fun!

There was a Lion's Den on Wilmington Ave. in the mid to late 70's. I worked above there in 1975 and 1976, and got in thru the back door on Friday nights to play foosball. There was a stuffed lion above the bar. It was in the same building as the current Ace Hardware. It has since been Jag's, Purnell's, and is now an Elsa's.

I was told that 'The She' used to be the Lion's Den, and that some famous bands played that club. We used to cruise that parking lot in the mid to late 1970's, wishing we were old enough to go inside. By the time I was old enough (1979/1980), it was not the same.

The other club in the Forest Park shopping center was Jammers. I think that it may have been called something else before that.

To Lenny Davis,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I don't check the site as often as I used to. My mom's name is Susan Hall. If you send me a private email, I can send you her email address. She remembers you. My email address is kaisermom@gmail.com

One story my mom told me was about working a benefit there after MLK was shot, and all of the benefits that night going to some charity fund about that. She remembers Big Red, and the others that you mentioned. She didn't know that Bobbie had passed away. She thinks that she and Bobbie were about the same age. After my mom left the Forvm, she worked at the Tijuana Lounge in the Salem Mall. She is still friends with Trudy (from the Hopple Street Exit group), and many others from there.
Hope to hear from you!

Hi all,

Just found this great website....Lived on Union Schoolhouse Rd in the 60's.

Here are things I remember from then.

Dayton East Drive-in
McMahans bottlegas and trailer court
Boler's trailer court
The variety store on Valley everyone called Hunkey's cause the guy who owed it was Hungarian I think or German.
Carnivals at Stebbins
Ester and Willard Seavers Pure Oil station on Valley...I think the son's names were Donnie and Joe...
AttaBoy gas station
Farmer's market....the carryout used to be in the front where you could get watermelons plugged and buy pop and penny candy.....the manager's name was Gordon I believe.
Cheerhart laundry mat
Foot-long glazed twist donuts at the shop next to the Dayton East.
OLSEN'S DRIVE-IN!!!....Mr. Olsen would always measure me and my brother and mark our heights on the door frame every year....frosted mugs and frozen candy bars....one of the car-hops names was Verna...Mr. Olsen nicknamed me Charlie Brown because he would see me dancing in the car as a little boy to the song of the same name....remember the little flashing light on the pole next to the street?.....you could still see it up until just a few years ago.
The Parkmoor on Valley
Hasty Tasty on Airway
Sandy's
IGA on the corner of Valley and Harshman and the big dogs that always layed in the aisles.
Johnny's auto parts
The junk yard
The plat....was there recently and it has never changed!
Trix's grocery store that was at the top of the hill from the yellow stucco house we lived on where Valley turned into 69 i think and Union Schoolhouse started.
The White Sands bar.
Summer picnics at Huffman Dam and buying hot peanuts from the guy who sold them near the dam from a roadside stand.
Watching my brother play football for the Mad River Jr. High Braves.
Watching them build Forest Ridge.

Anyone remember any of these feel free to e-mail me at monsterrick2004@yahoo.com

Moved and graduated from Meadowdale in 1976...will post memories from that era next time...

Loved the trip down memory lane!!

For anyone who loved horses back then, does anyone remember the Fargo's Farm near the corner of North Main and Philadelphia down a shady drive way. Meadows of Catalpa is there now. Also there was the Locke Farm on North Main Street and Yates Farm on Valerie Drive. Remember Slyder's Western Store in Brookville, Leader Western Store Downtown. I remember Rink's started selling horse tack in their store, quite unusual!

I think I remember a store on Salem Avenue called Hamiel's. Also, Uncle John's candy store next to Frisch's on Salem. Red Barn Restaurant, Kon-tiki, Sportswear Mart, Red Lobster, K-Mart, Best Products, Liberal Grocery Store, El Taco, Burger Chef, etc.
