Just wondering if anybody on here was ever a dayton fireman or had any family that was on the department. I currently am and very interested in any stories about the department or about their time on the department.

Shouldn't that read, "FIREFIGHTER" , rather than "FIREMAN"? I presume there has been at lease one female firefighter in the ranks of DFD.

DFD14, my stepkids grandfather was Dave Deems, retired out of 21s, now deceased, my ex wife's sister's father in law was Carl Deis, Asst. Chf.
now deceased. Most of the others I knew are retired, and/or deceased. I remember Old station 14 at Main & Forrest, when it was still active. Dayton lost quite a few engines and truck companys over the years. At one time Jim Parnell, now retired from the Inspection Bureau, was the DFDs Historian. Bet he has a lot of stories. I have a cousin that runs on Medic 18.

DFD14. Whatever it is they pay you guys. Its not enough! We've had several contacts with Ladder and Medic 11 when a family member was having health problems. Everybody was great. Never knew you all could rearrange a living in the few seconds that they did to get the cot in. Anyhow, quite some time ago. Back in the late 60s, early 70s. The man next door to a family friend was Dayton firefighter. Last name was Lolly. Lived in Walnut Hills. Ring any bells? A long shot I know.

Billd1952, My husband's late cousin, Richard Syx was a Fairborn firefighter and a Careflight dispatcher for Miami Valley Hospital. I don't know of any Roger Syx in our family.

Does anybody know if any of the old firehouses are currently being used for any thing? Co. 19 ( Wayne and Fauver), Co.14 (N.Main and Forest), Co. 7 ( Xenia Ave. just past St.Marys church), Co.15 (Wayne and Medford), Co.13 (W. Third and Euclid), Co. 9 (Salem and Lexington also on Riverview Terrace), Co. 21 (Frederick and Needmore), Co. 8 (Chapel and Maryland), Co. 11 ( I know this is now a restaurant at brown and park),

DFD - I have a family connection to Jerry Weissinger, who was the Director and Chief of the Dayton Department of Fire from May 1970 until his death in January 1979. Jerry was the Chief during the Dayton firefighters strike in August 1977.

I remember station 3 at Fifth and Wilkinson by Union Station. There used to be a station at Linden and Huffman (I think). I, also, remember a fire at the Virginia Cafeteria on the south side of E. Third just east of Main Street. I am guessing that that happened around 1950.
luv my dayton

dcreep your correct the station was where a small used car lot is now. My dad had a small service station across the street from fire station and they would talk back and forth when things were slow.
