Has anyone here at www.daytonhistorybooks.com or its readers know or heard anything about an airplane crash that occurred near Englewood back in the 1940s or 1950s? It would have been close to State Route 48 near (or what would become)I-70. Thanks!

The Ohio State Highway Patrol invetigates all civil aircraft crashes. They too might have the information you are looking for.
If you google airplane crashes 1940s-1950s, Englewood, Ohio, you'll see alot of sites with photos of crashes at and near WPAFB, including the B-26 Crash on Tuttle Ave. in the 1950s.

Calhoun, I haven't a clue what type of craft it was. My familiy used to reside (1960-1968)in a new plat (on hill) off SR48, 1/8 mile south of I-70. Across the street (about where Meier's is now) was a church and as kids we used to explore the area. There were small craters all over and we were told that a plane had crashed there at one time and caused them.

Thanks, Billd1952, I have googled this to death and have been unable to find anything about this crash. I'm beginning to wonder if my information is simply wrong.

Doug68, I know the area you are refering to. Hillgrove and Savina area. I asked a few of old timers from the old Randolph Twp. Fire Dept., and none remember any plane crashes in that area, during that time frame. I do remember being at two small plane crashes at the Phillipsburg airpark and one at the old Dayhio airpark, one on Old Springfield Rd., between Furnas and Dog Leg Rd, one on Ginghamsburg Rd., and one on Frost Rd., North of Old Springfield Rd., but those were 70s through the early 90s.

Billd1952, thanks for your research! I did find one crash in the USAF records that occurred near Dayton during the period in question, but the location furnished was very vague. In retrospect, had there been such a crash when and where I thought it to be, I think that everyone in the area would have known about it. But then, you're talking to a guy (me) who only just last week pre-paid for gas and a car wash at a local gas station, and then drove straight to the car wash with out pumping the gas. It was only twenty minutes later that I realized I had not pumped the gas into my car. Twenty-five bucks down the drain!

I remember a crash involving a B-29 in the early '50s. My dad drove the family out there to see the site. It was really devastating,We lived in North Dayton at the time.
