The early images brought back memories. Cassano's celebrates its 60th year as a Dayton business(established in 1953).

I just came back from Hannibal, Missouri... there is a Cassano's Pizza there, too.

I just taught the owners of a local pizza joint here in Alexandria, VA how to make an "original" Cassano's submarine sandwich (ham, salami, lunchmeat, provelone cheese and banana pepper rings on a sub roll and toasted with pizza sauce). The owner of the joint ( a German, no less)thought I was nuts. Then other people started ordering "what he's having". They call it "that Dayton sandwich". Really.

LA Provo e' Nel Gusto, Vic and Moms Pizza King, now known as Cassano's is one of my favorites. Their subs are great!

Cassano's had the best sub sandwich. Sam's pizza who was related to the Cassano family had a store on Salem Ave. When I was running around in my school days we all went in Sam's and they all ordered the sub. I had never had one. I thought I was in heaven.

I was in the Dayton area for a wedding in June.... I sure miss Cassano's . I now live in Florida. I had their great pizza 3 times while I was visiting. I did an autopsy on my supreme pizza trying to see all of the ingredients. When I came back to Florida I tried to make a copy cat version...It was kinda close but not the same. Anyone have a recipe that is pretty close to the supreme?

Marion's will deliver their pizza's by airplane if you want to pay the fee. When I moved to Florida, I missed so many things like Pizza King, Marion's, Big Boy, etc. If you get really hungry for it, you might see if they do the same as Marion's.

There seem to be a lot of Daytonians on this board who have relocated to Florida...a lot of them. Maybe you guys should petition the pizza businesses to open new locations in Florida!

At on time you used to be able to buy Cassanos pizza products and they would ship them to you. I do not know if they still do that but it might be worth an email or phone call to find out.

I've lived in Florida for the last 27 years, longer than I lived in the Dayton area (where I was born and raised). I still have family & friends in the Dayton area that I come to visit at least once a year. One thing that makes eating somewhere like Marion's even more special is that I only get to do it during my visits back "home".

$121.00 freight from Dayton to Dallas for 3 pizza's. Expensive but worth a once a year treat. I'm going to place my order in October for when my family and I plan on spending an entire Saturday watching all of the Halloween movies. The original and Rob Zombie's version are my favorite. Jamie Lee Curtis still looks good.

I got real home sick for some Marion's pizza a few years ago, so my Husband and I decided to make it as close to Marion's as possible using tortilla's. Here's what we did and its very very close to the taste.
I set the oven to 450 degrees.
I combine chuck and hot sausage and drain the meat and I put it in a food processor so the meat is fine like Marion's. I dice up canned shrooms. Add pepperoni, bell peppers and onions and I use Hunt's tomato sauce with just a hint of garlic powder and we use mozz cheese. It's by far the closest thing we can come to a Marion's pizza in Texas....pretty yummy. Now, back to the Cassano's Blog...sorry...I get excited.

I live in FL and there is no GOOD pizza that I have found here. I did find one that is OK but nowhere near Sam's. Marion's, or Cassano's. One place called Marco's is OK. I was reading advertising pamphlets in there and the main office is in.........Toledo, Ohio. (it is a chain) Go figure Ohio! We have a lot of New Yorkers down here and many store windows of pizza places say New York Style Pizza. Stay away from that. You won't be happy. New York Style Pizza is limp. not cooked enough. I want pizza to be like a cracker almost. Kind of tan underneath. I don't want limp pizza. I don't want it to sag when I pick up a piece. Chicago has good pizza but not here in Florida.

Nile - I eat at a Marco's in Orlando which I enjoy. I like having my pizza cut into squares, just like back home.

Riverdale Ghost ... go to Cassano's web site and you can have their frozen pizzas delivered. It's a little pricey because they ship them in dry uice, but it's well worth it!

I remember when the Drexel Pizza King on Third St. was robbed. A friend of mind had a strong suspicion that his brother was the culprit, but never confronted him.

Ah, armed robbery. Those were the days. O.K., maybe not.
