Its amazing how things have changed along n75. There was a big hotel out there at the corner of Needmore and 75 with a dance place called Georgios and Gene was the DJ for years and drew big crowds on a regular basis. Seems when he died the club disappeared and then the hotel went defunct.Anyone else remember going there and dancing the night away? This was late 80"s early 90's. After we closed that place down for the night we'd head across the road to have a bite to eat at Frisches.

Yes, that was the Imperial House North. There was a South one also just across I-75 from the drive-in theater next to the Dayton Mall.
They were top notch places and even more so back in the early 70's.
I liked them because on Friday nights, the restaurant had a seafood buffet - all you could eat including whole Maine lobster for maybe $10?
Made for a great impression on a date.

I worked at the Imperial House South for around four years in the late 70's.There were three,North,South and one in Columbus Ind.
.Dino Gounaris was my boss at South. His brother,George was a judge in Montgomery County for years.
I was a bartender in the dining room and lounge upstairs and a bartender and cocktail waitress in the "Boom Boom Room" which was in the basement. It was a Disco and we also had live bands that rotated between the three places. My favorite was Terry and Sandy Cross and their band "Crossroads".
It was considered a great place to stay, dine and party the night away back in the mid to late 70's.

If memory serves correct, the light at Needmore and I-75 was the last one to exist on 75 from Canada to the Keys. I heard that anyway and remember using that light going to see my ex-fiance in Troy. Yes, things change a LOT along I-75. Look at what is happening now - someone who hasn't been in Dayton in 5 years, wouldn't recognize "malfunction junction"

I am a merchant in Dayton. Gene's checks all said,Gene "By Golly" Berry. I told gene "I think I'll keep this check as a souvenir and not cash it". Gene said,"Yeah, why don't you do that". Those old timers were fast on their feet to the end.

Mary lou Spencer (Stoner) was my wife and the unrefuted 'Star" of the "Happy Daze" in the sixties. We played the BoomBoom Room over a 2 year period. Freddie Coates was our drummer. We met Doc Severensen of The "Tonight Show" and many other celebrities that stayed there when doing concerts In various Dayton area venues. The university of dayton Basketball team had to literally bend over when entering the room due to very low ceiling.

I watched a program earlier on CATV called 'Steve Kirk'. It was recorded in 1995 and the program featured Kirky interviewing Gene
By Golly Barry-Part 2.. Great memories were discussed. Wish there were more of these and I hope this one is repeated--Channel #991 Time Warner CATV

I left Dayton in 1969. Gene "By Golly" Barry was a DJ on WING in the early '50's and played Rhythm & Blues from a record shop on W. Third St at night. He was very popular with the high school crowd and ushered in the rock n roll era.
Around the same time there was another popular DJ by the name of Howard Malcom, who died of I think, of throat cancer.

remember that phrase for sure and miss the old days and the fun to be had. Changes came in the form of our safety when criminal activities made it no longer fun to be out and about. Even heard that the Christopher Club that had so much activity for the over 40's crowd is even closing its door down on S Dixie. Like I have said before, its only the memories of us older folks that will keep the stories, places, events alive for the younger ones to know about and thats if they will even care.

Gene Barry used to do live remotes from Time Furniture at 3rd and Van Lear Streets, when I was about 12, and I remember his phrazes like, "Hi Clyde, thanks for the buggy ride",or refering to his "laughing jacket "and his "chuckle boots". His sign off was " I love all you moms, pops, cats and kittens out there, love you, love you madly. Got to go, got to see a man about a record, Take care out there, bye Clyde". I remember this because Gene used to let me pull out the 45's and que them up on the turn table.
