Thanks, I couldn't remember Jerry's name either. I don't know about the owner of BHA but the spokesperson for years was Emmet Royer ( not sure of the spelling) but he was the one on the commercials with the song "better home appliances"

I didn't know him personally, but a friend of mine who worked for him said he was nice as could be. She and I had booths in a flea market, and when she told Jerry Cohen about her business venture, he gave her all kinds of display racks and showcases. More than the 2 of us could use. She even sold some. This was around 1980-81.

I always confused Jerry Cohen with the King Kwik brothers. To my 5 year old brain, they were the same guy(s). See you, pleeeeeease!

I agree with old4d, Jerry was a very nice man. In the blizzard of 1978 I saw him out running around in his car trying to help people on Salem Ave. ---------- Mike Harris Class of ' 69

When I was very young the building that became Concord City was a store where city employees could shop for a discount.I can't remember what the name was! Because my father was a Dayton police officer,we went there every year to get our school clothes. At least for a few years. Does anyone remember what the place was called?

The Jobs Center building was built by Rikes. Originally it was the growing store chain's warehouses. They also operated some retail sales from this store.
Concord City was in the building now used by St. Vincent DePaul.

MikeH....Sorry about that! I am thinking it was in the late 50's early 60's when my father took us there. We are talking about the building where you had to walk up the ramp to get to the door aren't we?

Jerry used to belong to the same pool as I did -- JCC off Denlinger Road in the Northgate area. Hairiest man ever.

I currently live outside Philadelphia, but I grew up in Dayton, OH. When I first moved here in 1993 I was stunned to see Jerry Cohen doing his spiel on local TV. I sat down stunned in front of the TV and old people I'd grown up in Ohio watching this man.

Does anyone know the real name of "Harry" and then "Buddy" who first did the Harry's Corner carpet store commercials and then did Buddy's Carpet City? "I don't care about making money, I just love to sell carpet." I saw him in the WONE-WTUE offices when I worked there, but he was busy and I didn't get a chance to talk to him.

I posted earlier that I remember going shopping at the building that became Concord City.I could not remember the name of the store that was only for government employees. This morning it popped into my head for no apparent reason. The name was FAME.It wasn't open for long, just a few years as I recall. I can't be the only person who remembers can I?

No, Cilla46, you are not alone. I remember FAME. It was only around for a couple of years. Never shopped there but I do remember seeing ads for it in the newspaper.
