Clearwater Falls was something. I went to a summer camp there, in the 60s. It was a day camp and well organized. Does anyone remember this? I do remember a natural water fall, is that correct.

During the 50's I lived in Frederick and spent almost every day at Millers Grove Swimming Pool and remember it like my second home. Our house was the big one on the opposite side of the road (now connected to the church) with the creek that ran into the swimming pool. Our house had 7 acres and our back acres backed up to Clearwater Swimming Pool and their picnic grounds. We never went to Clearwater as much because we got in free at Millers. My parents were friends with B ill and Dale Miller who were the brothers who owned the pool and drive in theater. Also... Clearwater Pool had a rough cement floor which tore up your feet ... like walking on rough sand paper. Millers pool was huge with 3 diving boards, and 2 slides (not counting the baby pool slide) but Clearwater, although smaller, was much prettier with tiers and layers of pools. More like a natural shaped pool down in a valley. Really pretty. Sadly, Millers pool is now gone forever. Last year the cement was torn up and it was plowed under and my heart broke. The drive in theatre has been gone for years. What wonderful memories. Millers Pool had a small arcade across from the bath house with games and a snack counter. It also had a small playground area with swings, merry-go-round and a small put-putt golf course. There is a site you can join in facebook called "Miller Grove Was My Second Home" and you can write in your memories and read others' remarks about the pool. Also there are a few pictures of the pool. Cathie

I took swimming lessons at Milers Grove, my Aunt still lives on Frederick and we would walk from her house down to the pool. I remeber going as a kid a few times with my parents. Some guy thought my dad was Kenny Anderson from Bengals. I went back for a visit one summer and stayed with my aunt. My cousins and I would go to Millers Grove and swim everyday. We would go to the very end of the stream that ran through the park, where it emptied into a little pond right next to a pavillion and we would look for turtles and stuff. It was the best summer I ever had. I love that place my aunt tells me that they have not opened Millers Grove for a couple of summers now and that makes me very sad.

I loved ready all the posts about Goody Goody. Just today my Tampa born husband and went to get a tire replaced at a Goodyear that is near the Pine Grove Family Restaurant. Since it would be 40 minutes, I suggested we go down to the restaurant for a Goody Goody. My husband was in heaven. He talks about the original and how he and his parents went there when he was growing up. I shared with him the history that I read about today from the posts. The only unfortunate thing is this: he has had business trips to Dayton, OH over many years, but mostly after 1970. He also lived in L.A. since the late 1960's. I met him there in 1973. Too bad the Goody Goody Drive-Ins were gone by that time. It the one still existed in L.A., I may have never been able to get him to move (back) to Tampa. I am looking for the "secret" sauce recipe too. Now that I have heard about the butterscotch pie, I want to try to find it and make it. My husband isn't much for sweets, and he tells me that he never had a piece of the pie. I would love to find it and make it, as I like butterscotch. Maybe someone needs to start a Goody Goody fan club on Facebook! Yes!

Didn't Goody's catch on fire? I lived right across the street on Parkhill Dr. and I seem to remember it burning to the ground, or pretty near to the ground then they tore the rest down. Right?
I went to school with Jon Randolph at Fairview, how is he?

According to census records, Robert Reid, son of William L. and Jessie Reid, was 15 years old in 1930 when they lived in Van Buren, OH. William was a restaurant owner and his wife Jessie was a restaurant operator. In 1940, Robert was a 24-year-old salesman selling business machines, living with his mother, Jessie, who was listed as a "restaurant owner" living in Oakwood. It appears that Jessie was widowed at that time and William is not listed, but Robert's wife, Mary, is in the home as Jessie's daughter-in-law. So if GG was moved to Salem Ave. after 1940, then it was while Jessie was the owner and Bob Reid and wife Mary didn't take it over until after 1940.

Butterscotch Pie from Goody Goody's 1 8” pie shell baked 1 ½ cup brown Sugar 3 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons white sugar 3 tablespoons cornstarch 1 ½ cups water 2 egg yolks 3 tablespoons butter 1/8 teaspoon vanilla
Mix flour, cornstarch brown and white sugar Add water and cook until very thick, stirring constantly Add slightly beaten egg yolks cook 1 minute, stirring constantly Remove from heat; add butter, salt and vanilla then allow to cool Pour into crust Top with meringue and bake 12 minutes in oven at 350
Meringue (We like lots of meringue, so I double the recipe add a couple minutes baking time) 2 egg whites 1/8 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla Beat egg whites, and gradually add sugar a teaspoon at a time, beat until stiff peaks add the salt and vanilla at the last. Some recipes add cream of tartar to stabilize the egg whites, and of course, be sure your bowl and beaters have no oil residue.
