I have a stomps burkhardt chair -Wilhemina, thanks for the info. My chair is X102 or X109 - has a saddle seat and legs that are also arched. Has a face and a harp. The harp connects the face and the saddle seat. From your note may I assume it's worth about $500? Do you know what kind of wood it's made from? Or the year it was created? Thanks

I have a desk that I purchased in Feb. 1976 for $40.00 + 1.80 tax in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a desk, golden oak color, measuring 34 1/2'' across, 25 3/4" deep. The top sits about 3/4" over the legs on the front and back and 1/2" over on the sides. The edges are curved, sort of beveled. There is a pull-out writing surface that has a pencil tray set in it and an ink well holder (they are all one piece of wood), it is 21 1/2" across, 16" deep. There is a small plaque with these words, Patented July 27,'09 The Burkhardt Furniture Co. Dayton, O. which is tacked/nailed in the pencil holder area. Underneath that writing surface is a divided drawer, 19 6/16" side to side and 22" deep which pulls out and would support the writing surface when in use. The large divided interior space is 12 1/2" across, the smaller space is 4 1/8" across. The height is 29" and there is a shelf centered underneath that is 29 1/2" across and 12" deep. I believe when I bought it the shop owner called it a library table. I would like to know if anyone can tell me if it has a higher value today and perhaps the proper name for this piece of furniture. It is in very good shape, I have only dusted it, never been refinished that I'm aware of. Appreciate whatever information anyone has. Thank you.

I found a desk in a storage unit that I bought at an auction. I have done some research on the desk and have found coflicting data. I am hoping someone here could help.

For example, I saw here that the Burkhardt Furniture Company became the Stomps-Burkhardt Company in 1890. However, my desk has a plate on the pull out writing surface that says, "Patented July 27, '09 The Burkhardt Furniture Company Dayton, O."

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello everyone and anyone that may have some info about The Stomps-Burkhardt Chair Co., I have this Unique Chair with Two Heads on the chair back that may be a rare find. I have been told that Gustave Stomps had made quite a few chairs with heads carved on the back but no one has seen a two headed chair back. Well if you would like to see the pics and possibly have some info to share with me just shoot me an email. Thank You. safemode.env@gmail.com

If you have questions about chairs and rockers that
may be from the G. Stomps & Co. or the Stomps-Burkhardt
Co., (from 1859-1928) email me the questions and pictures at gh@germaine.net and I will try to get back to you.

There was another company that made furniture:
tables for the parlor and library: The Burkhardt
Furniture Company (from 1893 - 1919). Once again
email me your questions and pictures. I'll try to help.

I'm writing a book about both these companies and their
families and would love to see what you have.

You can also mail me photos, etc: Horvath Publications
137 N. Main Street, Suite 206, Dayton OH 45402.

Thanks.

August Zwiesler is one of my ancestor's from Dayton. I tried to get to the patent just to see the drawings but it won't open up. Any ideas? Just interested in seeing them. My great grandfather Louis Zwiesler left Dayton for Kansas City. My grandfather was also named Louis but changed the spelling to Zwisler. I've never been to Dayton but the Zwiesler's and the Schmil's settled there.

Hello, all.

This is Wilhemina. I've been absent from this site
because I took time off to publish a couple of books.
I was also overwhelmed by all the inquiries.

I'm working on a new book all about the Stomps-Burkhardt Chair factory. If you want more information about the new book, email me at gh@germaine.net.

Possibly many of you have given up hearing from me. If
you still want me to respond to your request, send it
again. In the meantime I will try to respond to the
old inquiries.

If any of you have TABLES THAT SAY Stomps-Burkhardt,
please contact me directly, because they are very
unusual, no matter what the style!

Wilhemina

I'm not usre how aware anyone is, but a lot of the houses built around Burkhardt Center were built for employees of the furniture factory. My daughter lives in one of them, and they have found a few amazing things while remodeling their kitchen. I also in the neighborhood, but not sure if ours was one of those built for employees.

to Smurfnana:

Could you please contact me at gh@germaine.net,
so we can talk more about your daughter's house,
and the statement you made about it being built for
employees of the Stomps-Burkhardt Chair Factory?

Thanks.

Wilhemina.

I have a Stomps-Burkardt saddle chair that is stamped on the bottom X334 - The dimensions are approximately 38" H x 34" D x 33" W. There is a large elaborate carved old man north (?) on the back and the support posts for the back have lion heads at the top. The curved arm rest have faces at the most forward position (5 carved faces total). My grandfather bought this chair for $5.00 over 75 years ago. I would love to have any input on the history of this chair. Value is not as important because I would never sell this beautiful work of art. phj0207@gmail.com
